Size Restriction on Carry-on Liquids to be Dropped

Size Restriction on Carry-on Liquids to be Dropped

Good news! Soon you’ll have no more headaches packing your precious creams and shampoos when travelling by plane. Starting Fall 2009 US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will remove size restrictions on personal care products to be carried on the plane. This change will be possible due to introduction of new advanced X-ray equipment which will allow to differentiate between safe and dangerous liquids. However, liquids will still need to be placed into a separate plastic bag. This will be temporary as US TSA plans to upgrade X-ray software by the End of 2010 to make it possible to spot dangerous liquids even if they are hidden in a carry-on suitcase.
I do hope this very welcome change will happen in Europe as well without any delays.

The best facial masks from kiwi fruit

The best facial masks from kiwi fruit
Sure you know about useful qualities of kiwi, when we eat this fruit. But also kiwi is the wonderful cosmetologist! Vitamins and organic acids, containing in this fruit, are very useful for face skin. Facial masks from kiwi have both tonic and therapeutic effects. They cleanse skin finely; make it more elastic, fresh and young. Here you can find some easy recipes.

Kiwi mask for dry, worn and ill-nourished skin. You will need 1 tablespoon kiwi juice, 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 yolk of egg. Mix the ingredients and apply on the face. Leave it on for about 15 minutes. Remove the mask using a sponge. The kiwi juice will stimulate the blood circulation and the mask will smooth, nourish and calm the skin.

Kiwi mask for any type of skin. Take one kiwi fruit, 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon orange juice, 1 tablespoon almond oil, and 1 cup mashed carrots. Mix all the ingredients and make a fine paste. Apply it on the face and leave until it dries. Wash your face with cold water.

Cleansing mask. Knead one kiwi fruit and put it on the face. If mass pinches skin from time to time, it is ok. It means that mask works, because organic acids give salutary effect. Wash your face in 15 minutes. Then clean the face with any tonic and put your ordinary cream.

Strawberry and kiwi facial mask for all skin types. You’ll need 5-6 strawberries, 1 kiwi fruit, peeled 1/2 cucumber. Using a food processor, blend all ingredients into a thin paste. If too runny, add a teaspoon of oatmeal until a paste forms that will stay on your skin without dripping off. To use, apply liberally to face and neck area. Gently massage to lightly exfoliate your skin. Leave on for 5-10 minutes, rinse well with warm water. Your skin will feel clean and fresh.

Nourishing mask. Knead a half a banana and 1 kiwi fruit and mix them carefully. Then add 2 tablespoons natural yoghurt. Put the mask on the face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and then wash with warm water. Then clean the face with any lotion.

Kiwi cleanser for oily skin. This is a cooling, light facial cleanser suitable for oily skin. Make it as and when needed and use immediately for best results. You will need half a kiwi fruit, 15ml plain yoghurt, 5ml skimmed milk, 5ml clear honey, 5ml fine oatmeal, 1 drop petitgrain essential oil and 1 drop lavender essential oil. Place all ingredients in a blender and whiz until the mixture is smooth. Apply to face and neck with cotton pads. Massage in gently. Rinse and finish off with toner and moisturizer.

I’ve been Tagged!

I’ve been Tagged!

Like Divina, “I don’t really do tagging games, or I thought I didn’t.” But a bout with the flu and consequential boredom leads me to play. Thank you for the diversion from my sick bed ladies! First, the rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you (The lovely and warm Divina at Fragrance Bouquet and the talented Jenavira at Scent of Abricots).

2. Post the rules on your blog.

3. Write six random things about yourself.

4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.

5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.

6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Six Random Tamara things:

1) I jumped out of an airplane at 14,000 feet. And I have the video to prove it! It is the craziest and most courageous thing I have ever done yet I’ve never felt more alive!

2) I started playing classical piano when I was nine years old. I was very good and miss it terribly. My favorite composers include Bach, Beethoven and Mozart. Some day I will have a baby grand in my living room and I’ll teach my daughter to play.

3) Walking for 20 minutes three times per week and doing prenatal yoga once per week is about all I can muster in terms of exercise these days! My growing little girl accounts for my laziness.

4) I love interior design and secretly wish I had gone to school for it. I study it as a hobby but wish I had more skill!

5) My personal spiritual pursuit for the next 40 days until Thanksgiving is to write down ten things I’m grateful for and why, every day.

6) I can curl my tongue four ways.

Now the people I will tag are: lovely Marina over at Perfume Smellin’ Things, witty A. at Style Spy, crafty Gaia at the Non-Blonde, funny and talented Annieytown at Blogdorf Goodman, Victoria at Victoria’s Own whom I miss terribly, and the kind-hearted Raphaella at Sniffapalooza Magazine!

Tired of wearing mascara? Get Eyelash Extensions

Tired of wearing mascara? Get Eyelash Extensions
The latest trend is to get eyelash extensions. More and more companies are developing an eyelash extension system to accommodate the demand for this service.

The goal with extensions is to create a look that doesn’t require the use of mascara. So, if you are tired of wearing mascara every day, why not look into this service.

Eyelash extensions do cost more than mascara of course and will last for several weeks, if not months before they need to be replaced or adjusted. Sometimes lashes will fall out and you will need to get fill-ins.

It certainly is appealing to not wear mascara every day. As a contact lens wearer, I am constantly annoyed with mascara. I wonder if eyelash extensions would interfere with contacts?

Comme des Garçons Series 4 Anbar

Comme des Garçons Series 4 Anbar
After browsing through my list of perfume reviews written over the last two years, it shocks me that not one scent from this unique line has been included. Therefore, I am proud to introduce Comme des Garçons, a Japanese fashion label founded in 1969 committed to excellence in fragrance. According to Wikipedia, Comme des Garçons released their first fragrance, named after the company, in 1994 and has since been committed to developing fine, unisex scents based upon non-traditional notes.

For this month’s Amber devotion, I picked the refreshing Series 4 Anbar. The Series 4: Cologne collection contains three scents, all in cologne form, designed to be splashed and applied liberally while remaining remarkably close to the skin. (Read: the wearer will not overwhelm others but rather draw others closer to take a whiff of light scent.) True to form, these scents play on the skin for a short while. What they are not is a day-to-night fragrance to be applied in the morning with bottom notes lasting until dusk. Therein lies their charm and uniqueness.

I was quite surprised with Anbar at first sniff due to its abundance of citrus. The notes include mandarin, amber, carnation and musk. Had I been aware of its cologne status prior to testing, I would have been more prepared for a clean scent substituting a warm and dirty aroma. This amber lazily mopes in the background, while the mandarin and carnation dance together for most of the scent’s development. Slightly sweet, mostly clean and quite manly smelling, Anbar provides a fantastic deviation from the artificial body sprays of the world and is light enough to be applied liberally before heading off to work. How I wish I could carry a bottle of this with me for every man who made me gag during early pregnancy. I would hand it off politely and say, “Try this instead of showering in whatever you are wearing on your skin.” Yes, Series 4 Anbar would have been welcome to grace my nose any day when I was most sensitive. Even today, I find it invigorating and eye-opening.

In conclusion, I am impressed with Comme des Garçons as a house and must try other offerings after discussing their scent philosophy. Although Series 4 Anbar is not for me, at its affordable price point I will be purchasing a bottle for my husband. I am still searching for a bombshell amber to call my own! More on that next week.
The reason we perfumistas love Luckyscent so much is their ability to make obscure fragrances available in the United States. I am happy to say Comme des Garçons Series 4 Anbar is available at www.luckyscent.com. Although it is currently backordered, it will be available to ship October 20, 2008. A 125mL splash bottle retails for $52.

Makeup Trend: Fall/Winter 2008-2009 Eyes

Makeup Trend: Fall/Winter 2008-2009 Eyes
This is somewhat belated short overview of makeup trends for the current fall/winter 2008/2009 as seen on runways.

EYELINER

Create dramatic eye with liquid/pencil eyeliner or you can use black eye shadow as seen at Karl Lagerfeld. The trend is to apply eyeliner on both upper and lower eye rims. You can also be more creative and focus on outer or inner eye corners. My own favourite look is the cat makeup as seen at Jean Paul Gaultier’s show.

FALSE EYE LASHES

Maximize your eyelashes! False eyelashes were seen at many shows including Versace, Dior and Etro. Elley Kishimoto’s models were wearing color eyelashes.

COLOR EYE SHADOW

Brighten up your autumn days with colors! Choose the one that suits you! Blue, purple, orange, pink… From all of these blue seems to be most popular.
As seen in the photo below, eyeshadow is applied either to both upper and lower eyelids or to the upper and, in this case, not blended. My personal favourite is Miss Sixty.

ARTISTIC EYE SHADOW

You might want to recreate exaggerated artistic looks seen at Dior, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood (sorry couldn’t find good photo of the latter)

Make your neck skin soft and flexible

Make your neck skin soft and flexible
The skin of neck, more sensitive and drier, suffers from external actions more than skin of the face. But you can return flexibility and softness making the special procedure: hot compress. Generally compresses and envelopments are considered the best means for recovering of neck skin. Today I offer two variants of such compresses. One of them is used with homemade cream. Another variant is made from sea-buckthorn and squash. To reach visible effect, you should make procedure of compress everyday before sleep during one week.

For the first compress you need make a cream. Mix 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon honey, 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, 15 ml of camphor spirit, 1 tablespoon vaseline and 1 teaspoon camomile decoction. To make camomile decoction pour 1 tablespoon camomile with a glass of boiling water and filter. By the way, prepared cream should be saved in the fridge, but warm it before using.
Then warm residuary camomile decoction, wet gauze napkin in the decoction and wrap round the neck. Keep for 5-7 minutes and then put prepared cream on the steamed skin. Leave cream for the whole night.

To make another compress you need take sea-buckthorn oil and warm it. Clean neck skin with cosmetic milk. Then wet gauze napkin in the warm oil and put on the neck from chin till clavicles. Put polyethylene film or compress paper above napkin, then put layer of cotton wool and finally lock in bandage or kerchief. Keep compress more than 20 minutes, but it’s better to leave it for the whole night.
After procedure clean the neck with dry cloth and make envelopment from squash. Put grinded squash on the gauze napkin and bandage it to the neck. Keep for 20-25 minutes, wash with warm water and then rinse with cool water.
